The 2009 Ladbrokes World hurdle was an interesting betting affair as it was the first one for a couple of years without Inglis Drever so we had a new pre race favourite, strong fancied was Kasbah Bliss who came in second in 2008 and looked nigh on unbeatable heading to the race. He was the pick of most of the experts, also well backed were Big Bucks for Paul Nicholls and Punchestowns who was having a good season.
As it was, Kasbah Bliss was a huge disappointment and was never involved to leave the others to fight it out between them. With a couple out a straight fight between Punchestowns and Big Bucks emerged with the two virtually neck and neck heading over the final flight. It was Punchestowns who led off that hurdle but Big Bucks did not give in and eventually up and past his rival to give jockey Ruby Walsh his first World Hurdle victory in a cracking race.
